Multan: The Punjab Archaeology Department has decided to open bids from contractors for the conservation of the 500-year-old tomb of Hazrat Shah Ali Akbar — located in the Suraj Miani region of Multan, a news source reported. According to the publication, the project’s technical sanctions have recently been approved and officials hope that its development should begin by December 2019. It is estimated that the cost of the project will be around PKR 27.104 million.

This incredible site is located in the suburbs of the city, and its interior is decorated with fresco paintings and naqashi work. However, this stunning interior has been damaged by the smoke of mustard oil lamps and candles over the years, and needs immediate restoration.

The restoration plan for the tomb includes supporting fine dressed brick masonry at the salt affected parts of walls, application of lime plaster on the exterior and interior of the dome, upgradation of platform and graves, and inserting sheesham wood in brick masonry. It will also include providing and fixing the wooden jaali of sheesham wood, adding brick flooring, and electrification of the tomb, as well as restoration of stucco tracery work, fresco work, and glazed kashi tile work.
