The provincial government revived the project in order to supply water to the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, along with their adjoining areas, from the Ghazi-Barotha Dam. Given that authorities concerned will begin work on the project this year, it is expected to be completed by 2022. Once the developmental work for the venture has been finished, there will be a complete ban on installing tube-wells in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
