The professor highlighted the fact that as the online sales activity significantly increased in Pakistan, during the anti-COVID-19 lockdown, it is safe to assume that if the logistics service and delivery mechanism could reach the levels at which China stands right now, there would be an instant job creation for some 78,000 people, he said and added, “The number could grow to 1.56 million in the future.”

He stated that while the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) faced difficulties during the lockdown period, the online sales platform in the country provided them new business opportunities. If Pakistan pursues developing logistic services and ensure instant delivery of goods (ordered online), thousands more can find themselves with a job right away, said Xizhong.
Furthermore, the professor said that the sale of consumer goods in Chine rose by 6.1% between January to April when compared with the same period last year. As per the publication, China currently employees 5 million people in the logistic service sector and the number is expected to grow by 10 million in the next few years.
