Islamabad: The federal government has established an Adjudicating Authority under Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Act-2017 – a news source reported.
For this purpose, a notification for the appointment of Jamil Ahmed, a retired Pakistan Administrative Officer as Chairperson of the Adjudicating Authority has been issued. The same notification appointed Muhammad Tanvir Akhtar, a retired Inland Revenue Officer, and Khaqan Murtaza, an officer of Pakistan Administrative Officer as members of the authority. The Adjudicating Authority will start functioning with effect from July 1, 2019.

In a related notification issued by Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Inland Revenue Officers were posted in the Benami Zones established under the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Rules 2017.
The implementation of the Benami Act will begin from the Benami Zones established in Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore. The officials have already begun taking action against benami properties under the instructions of FBR Chairman.
