Islamabad: The National Information Technology Board (NITB) on the direction of the federal government will soon launch ‘Beep Pakistan’, a secure communication application, news sources reported on February 25. The app will be used by government officials for secure communication and information transfer.

Reportedly, following worries about hacking and the disclosure of sensitive government information, the federal government directed the NITB to develop ‘Beep Pakistan mobile application that will facilitate communication among government personnel and departments. The use of applications as a channel to handle sensitive information will be required for government personnel. Similarly, it was stated that the app will be released shortly, with features and encryption meant to withstand hacking attempts. The system User Interface (UI) would resemble WhatsApp and will support text communications as well as video calls.

It is crucial to highlight that foreign countries and hackers are continually attempting to compromise the data security of key government officials. A similar incident occurred when the hacking software ‘Pegasus’ was used to hack Prime Minister Imran Khan’s cell phone.
