Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) has started preparing a plan to address the worsening traffic issues in Saddar Bazar, attend to the increasing environmental concerns, and arrange for the provision of public facilities here, a news source reported. The Rawalpindi Corps Commander directly issued orders in this regard. Resultantly, Station Commander Brig. Ijaz Qamar Kiana began work on preparing these plans.

As per the plan RCB is currently working on, 5 parking plazas will be constructed in Saddar Bazar. This is in addition to several open parking sites the board will set up in the Cantt area. It will also ensure the provision of public facilities in the area. Reportedly, the Parks and Horticulture Authority has been tasked to formulate a beautification plan for Rawalpindi Cantt.

Speaking to the media, an RCB spokesperson said that serious measures are being taken to address parking issues in the city. Therefore, the authorities are seeking details on commercial plazas where the owners are using basements for purposes other than parking cars. The owners of these plazas will be directed to use the basements as car parking facilities. In the case of non-compliance, the RCB will take matter in its hands and remove the illegal structures in these basements, making these spaces available as car parking areas.
