Gwadar: The Canadian mineral processing company Barrick Gold Corporation has declared that it will invest in Gwadar’s mineral import and export sector, news sources reported on September 8.

According to reports, a delegation from Barrick Gold Corporation arrived in Gwadar and met with Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) Chairman Mr Naseer Khan Kashani, who briefed them on the Gwadar port, Gwadar free zone operation, port connections, and future of Reko-Diq. He stated that the government is making every effort to build Gwadar into a modern port city with all of the amenities necessary for commercial development. He updated the delegation on ongoing development projects, including the Gwadar International Airport, which he said will open in 2023. After the airport is completed, tourists and businesses will be able to fly in and out of the port city easily.

It is worth noting that Barrick Gold Corporation is investing in Reko Diq, a mineral-rich location in Balochistan, for gold, silver, and copper extraction and processing. The business has struck a USD 11 billion arrangement with the government of Pakistan, with proceeds split 50:50.
