Rawalpindi: The Punjab government has announced its decision to lift the ban on the construction activities in Murree, Bhurban and New Murree, a news source reported on November 6. The ban was imposed around 10 years ago to curb unplanned, illegal and potentially-dangerous construction activities.
The recent decision to lift the ban would promote related activities in the construction industry and provide employment opportunities to the people. An official notification by the provincial government is expected soon. News sources also claim that the relevant departments and officials are currently formulating the SOPs to ensure that while construction activity in these areas resume, there is mechanism in place to deal with illegal construction practices.

The 10-year long ban has left major impacts on the construction sector here, where work on dozens of development projects has remained halted. While this caused major problems for the developers and real estate builders, the locals also remained deprived of employments.
While deciding to lift the ban, the provincial government is also keen on ensuring that the set protocols for construction projects are followed in Murree and its adjoining areas. For this purpose, a well-devised mechanism will be introduced to ensure that project developers receive related NOCs from all concerned departments and get the buildings’ layout plans approved prior to starting development work at the project site.
