Islamabad: The Balochistan government plans to introduce its Livestock and Dairy Policy 2019 in a bid to boost the livestock and dairy sector in the province, according to a news source. This policy stems from Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan’s vision to revive the livestock sector to reduce poverty and enhance the living standard of rural residents.

As per reports, the government recently allocated PKR 52 million for the upgradation of cattle farming in seven districts of the province, PKR 10 million for the operationalisation of wool and research centre at Mastung, and PKR 250 million for setting up ring centres for animals in Qila Abdullah, Taftan, Zhob, and Gwadar in the FY2019-20.
Similarly, for the renovation of the slaughterhouse located on the eastern bypass of Quetta, the executive has allocated funds worth PKR 100 million.
Under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), the provincial government has allocated PKR 722 million to promote development in the livestock sector. A grant of PKR 4.027 billion was recently announced for the annual expenditures of the livestock and dairy development department.

Moreover, a government official said that 150 new jobs would be generated to counter unemployment in veterinary doctors and to ensure better animal treatment facilities. Moreover, he revealed that the government was planning to introduce 23 civil veterinary dispensaries in Balochistan.
