Quetta: The Balochistan government has released funds worth PKR 6 billion to counter and mitigate the economic impact of COVID-19 in the province that has left thousands of people unemployed, according to news sources.

Government of Balochistan Spokesman Liaquat Shahwani revealed in a press briefing that the provincial government has released the said money from its own resources to facilitate the people rendered unemployed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Shahwani said that ration distribution among the jobless, daily wagers/labourers and other vulnerable people has been underway in all districts of the province. He also confirmed that at least 238,000 people has received the ration distribution via the district commissioners. He added that the government was making ‘all-out efforts’ to ensure that the offered aid is being delivered to the deserving at their doorsteps.
Furthermore, the spokesperson expressed concern over the rising number of infected people and said that the government has established 71 isolation centres throughout the province which have been provided with personal protection equipment (PPEs), face masks, gloves, other required equipment apart from ensuring food availability in the prevailing challenging situation.
