Islamabad: The Balochistan government announced on Monday that it had set aside PKR 200 million for the protection and preservation of several key heritage sites present across the province, according to news reports.

One of the more notable sites which will benefit from the budget is the Mehrgarh civilisation, which dates back to 7000 BC. Other important locations include sites in Kech and Makran, as well as the Mir Chaka Fort.
Officials have said that the provincial government also plans on inaugurating art and culture centres in major cities across the province, including Sibi and Nasirabad. This will aid in promoting the culture and diversity of the region.
The Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) received PKR 100 million to renovate tourist spots at the Shuban Valley in an attempt to promote tourism, and attract local as well as foreign tourists to the area. Another PKR 760 million has been reserved for the development of tourist spots across the province.

This budget allocation is historic, because according to government officials, this is the first time a provincial government in Balochistan has decided to write up and work on a tourism and culture policy.
