Quetta: The federal government on Monday announced its decision to share 40% of the gas revenue obtained from the Sui gas field with Balochistan, a news source reported. To this effect, sources revealed that the Balochistan government would soon sign an agreement with Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL).

According to the details revealed, under this agreement, the provincial government would receive PKR 6 billion annually in terms of gas revenue from the Sui gas field. Officials of the Power Division said that PPL would also pay PKR 20 billion in arrears to the Balochistan government as per this agreement.
In Pakistan, the Sui gas field is the largest natural gas field. Located near Sui in Balochistan, the field was discovered in late 1952, and commercial exploitation began in 1955.

Earlier this year, the federal government revisited the National Finance Commission (NFC) award and the 18th amendment. Sources revealed that various political parties have assured the centre about extending their support for changes in the NFC award and 18th amendment.
