Quetta: The Balochistan government on Tuesday extended the provincial lockdown for another two weeks to contain the local COVID-19 spread, a news source reported. To this effect, the home department has provided a notification of the extension till June 2.

The decision has been taken in view of rising number of cases in the province. The notification states that the ban on public gathering, inter-city and inter-province travel is to remain in effect till further notice.
Moreover, no religious congregation will be allowed except for Taraveeh and Eid-ul-Fitr prayers. The two congregations allowed will also have to be held in accordance with the SOPs drafted and announced by the government.

“It is mandatory to take all pragmatic and possible measures to contain and counter the further spread of coronavirus on war footings,” read the notification. “Strict action will be taken against violators,” it further stated.
The ban has been imposed under Section 144 of The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898 to ensure public safety.
