Islamabad: The Balochistan government has announced its decision to set up a Water And Sanitation Agency (WASA) network for the provision of potable water facilities and sanitation services in major cities, according to news sources.
To facilitate this meaure, the executive has allocated funds worth PKR 11.839 billion for the development and execution of progressive schemes of the Public Health Engineering Department.
Provincial Minister for Public Health Engineering Noor Muhammad Dummer said that the government wanted to expand WASA’s network to facilitate Quetta’s population. He also revealed that the provincial government had earmarked PKR 500 million for the project.

He added that the incumbent water sytem, which comprises 450-500 tube wells, could not cater to the increasing demand. The minister said that the government had proposed to install new tube wells to overcome this shortage. He said that the executive planned to establish an online complaint facility for people to report any delays in the scheduled timings for water supply.

Moreover, WASA Quetta would sign an agreement with a Chinese firm to oversee valve management and regulate the supply valves. The minister assured that all proper measures would be exercised to keep all the tube-wells operational.
