Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Mahmood Khan on Tuesday chaired a meeting of the Housing Department and was briefed on its overall progress; including that made towards the development of various housing schemes, according to news sources. He was informed that under the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP), a ballot had been conducted to allot 8,000 grey structures in the Surizai Housing Scheme.

Moreover, the meeting was informed that the civil work for the Surizai Housing Scheme will be launched within a month and will reach completion within a three-year timeframe. Regarding the recently initiated Hangu Township scheme, the chief minister was informed about the 7,500 applications received and that the project consultant has also been hired. The civil work for the Hangu Township Scheme has been slated to commence in January 2021.

As for the Khpal-Kor low-cost affordable housing schemes; the meeting was told that 714 plots were allotted between April 2018 and August. Moreover, it was reported that 85% of work on 144 high-rise flats of different categories have been completed – whereas PKR 80 million has been allocated in the Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2020-21 for the construction of various high-rises for the government employees in Phase-V of Hayatabad.
In response, the chief minister directed the authorities concerned to accelerate the housing initiative’s development to accommodate citizens and reduce the burden of population on major metropolises.
