Bahria Town is not only actively providing the people of Pakistan with international-standard housing societies, it is also taking part in supporting the country in other ways. The development of Grand Mosques in Lahore and Karachi, establishment of Altaf Hussain University in Hyderabad and Bahria Town Dastarkhwans in various cities are a few examples.
Now Bahria Town has decided to support the government in developing the Metro Bus project in Karachi. The developer has decided to lend Rs 42 billion to the Sindh Government for a period of 15 years, so that the plan to set up a Metro Bus system in Karachi can be realised.
According to a news source, the Karachi Metro Bus route will comprise two 54-km routes from Super Highway to Tower and from Super Highway to airport via Malir Cantt.
The project will cost Rs 70 billion in total, out of which Bahria Town will lend Rs 42 billion, Rs 20 billion will be contributed by the federal government, and the remaining Rs 8 billion will be allocated by the Sindh government.
The news source reported further that the project design had been completed in the last 3 months and had been approved by the Energy Information Administration (EIA). Furthermore, Daewoo will look after the operational matters of the project and hybrid buses will be deployed on it.
The Lahore Metro Bus project has proven to be a huge success and a large number of people benefit from it every day. Meanwhile, the Islamabad/Rawalpindi Metro Bus project is near completion and it will be operational soon. Likewise, the development of Karachi Metro Bus will be a noteworthy addition to Karachi’s infrastructure and Bahria Town’s decision to lend such a huge sum for this project is indeed commendable.
