Islamabad: Chairman Bahria Town Malik Riaz recently directed the authorities concerned to open the Motorway-9 (M-9) highway for public use — terming it ‘the largest and most-modern interchange of South Asia’, a news source reported. As per the publication, the M-9 connects Bahria Town Karachi with Sukkur; and is the country’s only interchange facility to have been developed by a private real estate developer.

The chairman stated that the project had been completed in record time by employing international standards of practice, comprising of modern installations. The interchange exhibits a number of lanes for the convenience of the commuters. Also, the motorway is rendered secure through an 8-feet fence and a 3-feet high guard rail.

The M-9 motorway project was announced in 2017 after a formal agreement was signed between the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) and Bahria Town. The motorway is eight kilometres long and consists of three underpasses, many access roads, slip roads, service roads, and causeways. A new, modern flyover was also constructed in addition to an existing one in the area. Along the interchange, an area of 35 acres has been adorned with beautiful plants, flowers, trees, and appealing landscapes. In addition, the project also comprises of a modern irrigation system.
