The foundation’s representatives recently discussed the matter with Finance Minister Asad Umar. They said that they were building an LNG terminal at Sonmiani, which will be connected to the Hub-Nawabshah gas pipeline project.
Sources close to the development said that Bahria’s project was monetarily feasible. The government is also contemplating scrapping its earlier plan of allowing the Ministry of Maritime Affairs to set up an LNG terminal.

Islamabad is considering establishing one more LNG terminal in a bid to address Pakistan’s gas shortfall. At present, the country has two LNG terminals built at Port Qasim.
Previously, the government had tasked the Maritime Affairs Ministry with identifying locations for setting up new LNG terminals in the country. In response, the ministry had suggested making amendments to the LNG Policy 2011.
