According to the details, this development follows a series of high-level discussions initiated after a visit by Pakistani officials to Azerbaijan and during a meeting chaired by Pakistan’s Minister for Investment, Privatisation, and Communications Abdul Aleem Khan, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Qasim Mohiuddin revealed Azerbaijani institutions’ interest in these projects. The discussions focused on leveraging a government-to-government (G2G) investment model to ensure efficient collaboration between the two nations.
The M9 Motorway, a 136-kilometre route, serves as a vital link between Karachi and Hyderabad, while the M6 Motorway, stretching 306 kilometres, will connect Sukkur to Hyderabad. These projects are crucial for enhancing Pakistan’s transportation network, facilitating smoother movement of goods and passengers, and supporting regional trade.
Minister Khan underscored the importance of attracting investments from Central Asian countries, including Azerbaijan, to accelerate infrastructure development in Pakistan. He highlighted how Azerbaijan’s participation could foster stronger economic ties between Pakistan and the Central Asian region, as well as expand connectivity to Eastern Europe.
These motorways are key components of Pakistan’s infrastructure development strategy; following the aim to bolster internal connectivity, reduce travel time, and enhance the efficiency of freight transportation between major economic hubs. The improved road networks will support Pakistan’s role as a trade corridor, linking South Asia with Central Asia and beyond.
