Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has made it mandatory for property owners to get their building plans approved if they wish to avail utility services in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), reports a news source. The Sui Northern Gas Pipeline and Islamabad Electric Supply Company will only extend new connections when an NOC has been issued by the civic authority.
This development is a result of court orders asking CDA to ensure that the residents of rural areas falling under the ICT get their building plans approved before starting construction on plazas and houses. The decision has been criticised by many, saying that the Supreme Court directed CDA officials to take action against illegal construction activity in Bani Gala and Bhara Kahu – however, the civic authority has instead enforced the new rule on all the villages.
