Lahore: Caretaker Local Government Minister Ibrahim Murad directed the relevant authorities to demarcate the green areas in the master plans of 11 districts in Punjab in a bid to combat pollution and protect agricultural land, according to news published on May 11.

The minister chaired a meeting to review the progress of the master plan for 11 districts of Punjab. During the meeting, he stated that no new housing schemes will be allowed in the green area and strict action will be taken against the schemes that are already illegally utilising green areas. Moreover, Minister Murad highlighted that business zones or economic corridors are essential for promoting commercial and business activities in small towns. The minister mentioned that this will help in providing employment opportunities for the locals.

Local Government Department Project Director Umm Laila Naqvi disclosed the department was preparing master plans for Sialkot, Okara, Khanewal, Rahim Yar Kha, Muzaffargarh, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Kha, Sahiwal, and Vehari. She went on to say that Land Use Classification Maps for 11 districts have been prepared and sent to relevant Deputy Commissioners for approval. Once it is approved, the land use plans will be prepared.
