Karachi: The city administration has decided to make arragements for the launch of the 44-kilometre-long Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project – as per the directives of the Supreme Court (SC) – in coordination with the Pakistan Railways (PR) and other stakeholders, according to a news report published today (July 13).

The commissioner house issued a press statement on Sunday revealing that a meeting regarding the KCR project was held under the chairmanship of Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Shallwani at his office to review the project’s progress. The revealed that the meeting made various decisions to remove the hurdles hindering the KCR’s launch.
The meeting ordered for the development work on a 14-kilometre track – to be laid between the city and Orangi Town – and the railway stations, along the route, to be completed within two months.

Pakistan Railways Divisional Superintendent Arshad Salam Khattak explained to the participants regarding the steps being taken to revive the project. The meeting discussed the issue of the replacement of the sewerage infrastructure at Urdu Bazar (towards Depo Station). The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) was tasked with this initiative.
The representative of the Sindh Planning and Development Department (P&D) briefed the participants about the fencing work along both sides of the route, saying that it will be initiated next week.
