Rawalpindi: Punjab’s deputy commissioner has directed the civic bodies of the capital city, along with those operating under the cantonment board, to begin work on the beatification project proposed for Rawalpindi, a news source reported. He issued the order after the formation of the government task force geared towards executing the said operation.

As per reports, Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Chairman Asif Mehmood will lead the 11-member task force; comprised of the representatives of the commissioner, deputy commissioner, Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC), Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB), National College of Arts, the archaeology department, and traders.
According to the deputy commissioner’s notice, the task force is responsible for identifying city areas that require development. Meanwhile, PHA will carry out the project’s execution. The task force also has the provision of seeking a consultancy service in order to prepare a feasibility study and design for any project.

The deputy commissioner also held talks with officials of all civic bodies and members of the task force to discuss the new plan regarding the preservation of the historical sites – as well as the city’s beatification campaign.
