Lahore: Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Reform Asad Umar has asked the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to utilise technology in its tax collection and revenue generation efforts, a news source reported.

Umar was addressing a conference called ‘Sustainable Development in a Digital Society’ on Tuesday. He stated that digital platforms help in breaking barriers. He added that the government was making efforts to bridge the digital gap between urban centres and remote areas of the country.

The former finance minister stated that revenue generation and economy’s documentation were a major challenge for the current government. He added that the departments concerned had introduced technological initiatives to achieve their respective targets in this regard. He opined that the digitalisation of the economy would bring a breakthrough on this issue – as compared to the sole efforts of FBR officers.

Umar stated that promoting a digital economy was of extreme importance to the country for moving forward on the part of development and progress.
