Islamabad: Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar on Thursday announced the government’s decision to introduce a PKR 600 billion development package for nine districts situated in the south of Balochistan during the next three years, a news source reported.

He expressed his views on the matter during a press conference in the capital city. Minister for Information Shibli Faraz, Minister for Communications Murad Saeed, and Minister for Defence Production Zubaida Jalal were all present on the occasion.
Umar said that the proposed development package for Balochistan was aimed at bringing prosperity and improving law and order situation in the province; adding that the executive intended to provide gas and electricity connections to about 57% of the households in the nine districts.

Additional provisions, he said, will include 16 small dams for irrigation of 150,000 acres of land and plantation of dates and olive trees. He further stated that the federal government would extend all possible assistance to the Balochistan Exploration Company in its mineral exploration pursuits.
