Islamabad: Pakistan’s former Finance Minister Asad Umar will be rejoining the federal cabinet, a news source reported. Umar will return to the cabinet as the Minister for Planning & Special Initiatives.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister (PM) on Information & Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan revealed the information on Monday. She stated that they aim to expand the cabinet. In this regard, they have now made Khusro Bakhtiar – who was serving as the Minister of Planning & Development until now – as the new Federal Minister for Petroleum.

The PM’s aide added that they will issue an official notification regarding the changes made soon. As per sources, there is no information on the portfolio assigned to Ghulam Sarwar Khan, who was serving as the Minister for Petroleum & Natural Resources until now.

Umar had resigned from his position as the Finance Minister on April 18. At the time of resignation, he had revealed that the PM had offered him the post of the Energy Minister, which he had declined – not believing it to be the right step.
