Lahore: Federal Minister for Planning, Development, & Special Initiatives Asad Umar recently called on the British government to improve investment relations and bilateral business ties under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) arrangement, a news source reported.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Planning, the British High Commissioner Dr Christian Turner met with Minster Umar recently. During the meeting, the minister highlighted the potential for British investors to explore opportunities in CPEC and other sectors of the country’s economy. He said that direct investment in CPEC would translate into investing in the special economic zones. He mentioned the example of the Allama Iqbal City (AIIC) economic zone in this regard.

During the meeting, both sides assured of their determination to expand areas of cooperation between the two countries. They discussed increasing economic, educational, and cultural cooperation. Umar told the commissioner that the reform process was bringing positive results. He added that Pakistan’s economy was improving and that the government expected inflation to decline further.

Commissioner Turner informed the minster that Britain planned to explore investment opportunities in various areas of Pakistan’s economy, including clean energy, health, tourism, education and efforts to combat climate change.
On a similar note, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government also recently invited all relevant stakeholders to explore and benefit from the ample opportunities presented by CPEC.
