Lahore: The Punjab Government is working on plans to establish Arazi Centres in remote areas to facilitate the masses, a news source quoted Chief Minister Usman Buzdar. The officials concerned have identified land for the purpose.
The centres will be connected to the land record information management system, overseen by the Punjab Land Records Authority (PLRA), providing ease of access to the public regarding land revenue and property registration.
Earlier in December, the Supreme Court asked the provincial government to submit its reply regarding functioning of patwaris, kanungos and tehsildars in urban areas.
Punjab Advocate General Ahmad Owais informed the special bench of the apex court that the matter related to the Land Revenue Act which was also applicable in other provinces.
Chief Justice Saqib Nisar had earlier taken suo motu notice of alleged record tampering and corruption at patwarkhanas. Justice Nisar had questioned patwaris’ role in preparing land transfer deeds following the establishment of Punjab Land Records Authority (PLRA).
