Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced the commencement of housing construction for low-income families under the ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’ initiative, as reported on October 22.

As per details, during a special meeting, the Chief Minister received a detailed briefing on the program’s progress. She was informed that, within just two months, beneficiaries of the first loan instalment in Lahore, Kasur, and other districts have actively began building their homes. Punjab CM instructed the authorities to ensure the timely release of the second loan installment, emphasising that every eligible individual should receive their rightful loan. To streamline the process, she revealed that Assistant Commissioners have been appointed as focal persons in each district to assist applicants.

Chief Minister Maryam also stated her commitment to personally monitoring the program’s progress through a dashboard. Additionally, she tasked Provincial Minister Bilal Yasin with overseeing the on-ground execution of the initiative. Earlier, officials briefed the Chief Minister that more than 550,000 people had accessed the program’s portal, with around 450,000 applications submitted under the scheme. Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Provincial Minister for Housing Bilal Yasin, Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, Secretary Housing Asadullah Khan, Principal Secretary Sajid Zafar Dal, DG PHATA Saif Anwar Jappa, and other senior officials were also present during the meeting.
This ambitious initiative represents a major step forward in the government’s efforts to provide affordable housing to those in need, reaffirming its commitment to social welfare and economic upliftment across Punjab.
