Lahore: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif recently granted principal approval for three housing models under the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” program, as news reported on August 5. The official launch of this initiative is scheduled for August 14.

As part of the pilot phase, model houses have been constructed to showcase the project’s design and quality. This decision marks a significant advancement in the initiative aimed at providing affordable housing solutions across the province. In her address, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasised the inclusion of living rooms in the model house plans and introduced a toll-free number to assist prospective applicants. Following her directives, the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) will develop a dedicated online portal for the program, allowing individuals to submit their applications from home.
Secretary Housing Captain Asad Ullah Khan (Retd) provided a detailed briefing, revealing that application forms for the program are available at the offices of Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners. Plot owners with plots ranging from 1 to 5 marlas are eligible for interest-free loans to build their homes. To ease financial pressures, CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif also instructed that loan repayments be structured into manageable installments. The government has approved the PC-1 for constructing a ground and a triple-story apartment on state land, with a feasibility study to be conducted soon. Additionally, 3 and 5 marla houses will be allocated to Punjab Housing & Town Planning (PHATA) beneficiaries in private schemes, with a five-year repayment period. The Punjab government will provide subsidies to reduce construction costs in private schemes. Approximately 70,000 plot owners in both urban and rural areas will be eligible for these interest-free loans. The government will cover the service charges through Microfinance institutions.

Senator Pervaiz Rasheed and Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb also attended the meeting, reinforcing the government’s commitment to making homeownership accessible and affordable for all. This initiative is set to transform the housing landscape in Punjab, offering new opportunities for families to secure their own homes.
