Lahore: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed authorities to expedite the construction of 20,000 houses across the province under the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar program, setting a deadline for completion by February.
Chairing a high-level meeting, the CM reviewed the progress of the initiative aimed at providing free plots and affordable housing to the homeless. She emphasized that the annual target of constructing 100,000 homes must be met under all circumstances.

Key Developments & Directives:
An 8-member committee has been formed to finalize Terms of Reference (TORs) for the free plot allocation process.
Development work on 2,807 plots in 35 government housing schemes across 22 districts is being expedited.
Authorities have been instructed to accelerate the development of 1,119 plots in nine housing schemes spanning seven districts.
A total of 4,841 houses are currently in the final stages of completion under the initiative.
The CM stressed the need for a detailed review of three- and five-Marla government housing schemes across Punjab.
Financial & Public Response:
So far, Rs. 8.2 billion in loans have been disbursed for the construction of 9,015 houses under the program.
Around 2,050 beneficiaries have received their second loan installments to continue construction.

The Apni Chhat Apna Ghar online portal has recorded over 728,000 visits, with more than 400,000 applications submitted along with complete documentation. An additional 74,000 draft applications are in process.
CM Maryam Nawaz reaffirmed her government’s commitment to ensuring swift execution of the housing initiative, directing relevant authorities to remove any bureaucratic delays and facilitate applicants efficiently.
