Karachi: On Friday, the Supreme Court directed the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) to take strict measures against the illegal carving of land, also known as China-cutting, according to a news source. This also entails removing 35,000 amenity plots in the metropolis. These orders were given by a three-judge bench comprising Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Gulzar Ahmad, and Justice Umar Ata Bandial.
This ruling was given after a female petitioner approached the court related to encroachments on her own land in New Karachi. The bench members inquired from the KDA Director General (DG) about action against the illegal carving of thousands of amenity plots in the city and encroachments being built on them. The DG submitted a report stating that 17,000 amenity plots had been cleared of encroachments under previous court orders.
