Lahore: Cement sales in the country were seen to rise by 37.8% from 35.12 million tons in July 2019 to 4.838 million tons in July 2020, according to data released by the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association, a news source reported. Both local demand and exports registered a significant increase.

The local sales of cement rose by about 32.67% from 2.979 million tons in July 2019 to 3.953 million tons in July 2020. Exports, on the other hand, rose by 66.14% from 0.533 million tons to 0.885 during the said period.
In local sales, the increase in the north zone was recorded to be 38.86% from 2.474 million tons in July 2019 to 3.435 million in July 2020. Although the exports from north zone declined by nearly 47%, from 0.231 million tons to 0.123 million tons due to trade issues with India and slow construction activities in Afghanistan.

The south zone on the other hand saw its domestic sales rise a minor 2.39% — an increase to 0.518 million tons in July 2020 as against 0.506 million tons for the same month last year. However, the exports from south zone increased by more than 150% during the period – from 0.301 million tons in July 2019 to 0.762 million tons in July 2020.
