Islamabad: Federal Minister for Communications Asad Mahmood on Wednesday (January 04) approved the construction of residential apartments for employees of the National Highway Authority (NHA), news sources reported.

The project will be located near the M-1 and M-2 motorways and will offer employees the opportunity to purchase apartment units in easy instalments. Reportedly, the apartments will be equipped with all necessary amenities and will be constructed on 121 kanals of NHA land.
During a recent visit to the site, Minister Mahmood announced that the foundation stone for the project would be laid this month. He said that the project will be an important step towards providing NHA employees with affordable housing.
In addition to the residential development, the minister also ordered the construction of two additional loops at the Peshwar-Islamabad Motorway (M-1) and Islamabad-Lahore Motorway (M-2) interchanges to improve access for travellers going to the Lahore, Peshawar, and Islamabad airports.

It is important to mention that a mega housing project was launched in 2019 by the federal government as a housing initiative aimed at providing affordable homes to low-income families. The project aims to construct five million houses across the country over a period of five years, to address the shortage of affordable housing in Pakistan.
