Islamabad: The Ministry of Housing and Works with the collaboration of other state organisations will start a massive anti-encroachment drive against the unauthorised expansion of government-owned houses located in various sectors of Islamabad, a news source reported on February 8.

A meeting was organised with Federal Secretary Housing Iftikhar Ali Shallwani in the chair. He ordered the relevant officials to start anti-encroachment operations immediately. He also directed the authorities to restore the footpaths to their original condition.
The news source mentioned that a large number of government houses have been modified with illegal expansion in different sectors including F-6, G-6, and G-7. It was shared that some government employees have raised additional storeys and have made extensions which violate the by-laws of the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

DG Estate Office Ghulam Sarwar briefed the officials about the implementation status of recommendations by the National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee on Housing and Works related to the issues of additional construction and subletting of government-owned houses. The meeting was informed that the final notices have been issued to the residents by the Estate Office for the additional construction inside courtyards and rooftops.
