Karachi: The Karachi Development Authority (KDA) has demolished more than 500 slum huts in Block 1 of Gulistan-e-Jauhar as part of an ongoing anti-encroachment drive against land grabbers in the city, news sources reported on January 5.

The operation was conducted on the orders of the KDA Director General (DG) Syed Mohammad Ali Shah, who also oversaw the operation. During the KDA anti-encroachment drive, local government, police, and ranger troops were present to provide security and maintain peace.
Additional Director of State and Enforcement Jameel Baloch stated that the operation was carried out close to the University of Karachi (KU) in response to a complaint from the administration of the university. The area has been cleared, and a surveillance system has been put in place to monitor any encroachment activity.

KDA DG Syed Mohammad Ali Shah also mentioned that no interference would be permitted during the fight against encroachment, and the KDA lands would not be allowed to be used for illicit purposes. He said that the operation against encroachment will continue till January 18.
