Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Board of Revenue on Tuesday (September 07) – during an anti-encroachment drive – recovered state land worth PKR 60 billion from illegal occupation, news sources reported.

The operation was conducted across 30 provincial districts and recovered land totalling 4,100 kanal. According to Syed Zafar Ali Shah, a Senior Member Board of Revenue (SMBR), the operation is a continuation of the anti-encroachment drive that began in June and is anticipated to continue. According to the information provided, the operation recovered 668 kanals of state land valued at PKR 39 billion in Peshawar, followed by Mardan, where government authorities reclaimed 322 kanal of land valued at PKR 15 billion.
In Abbottabad, officials recovered 82 kanals of state land worth PKR 2.57 billion; in Dera Ismail Khan, authorities recovered 276 kanals of state land worth PKR 2.15 billion; and in Nowshera district, 477 kanals worth PKR1.2 billion were recovered. Moreover, 326 kanals of land worth PKR 3.9 billion have been reclaimed in Charsadda district, 71 kanals in Lakki Marwat, 67 kanals in Buner, 66 kanals in Bannu, 34 kanals in Haripur, and 33 kanals in Mansehra.

According to KP SMBR, the government is working on a project to digitise land records, and a total of 3,500 mouzas land records have been digitised in 19 districts of the province. The remaining 1200 mouzas will be fully digitised by the end of this year. He claims that digitising and modernizing the land record will significantly reduce land grabbing and encroachment.
