Islamabad: The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is considering introducing a provision similar to the amnesty scheme in its bid to expand the tax bracket, a news source reported. To facilitate this measure, it has directed the Ministry of Finance and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to present a report containing the data of the citizens concerned compiled by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).

As per sources, the Prime Minister’s Development Unit (PMDU) has asked the finance and interior ministries and the taxation authority to devise a plan for this purpose. However, FBR Deputy Secretary (Expenses) Iftikhar Ahmed Janjua said that the development concerned the amnesty scheme announced by the government earlier this year, and that no new facility had been planned.

Moreover, the officials concerned are required to provide updates on the task management system and the Pakistan citizen portal regarding the tasks assigned by the PMDU for the implementation of the previous amnesty scheme. However, that has not been done in some cases.
The scheme has already been introduced, but a compliance report is yet to be submitted on this front.
