Annual sports gala for a complete week for children in Pakistan Sweet Homes titled “Angels on Earth” has begun this Monday morning at the Jinnah Stadium Sports Complex. In this event, more than 2800 children from 28 cities are participating and the event is inaugurated by Syed Khursheed Shah, the Minister for Religious Affairs.
While delivering a speech at the inauguration ceremony, Syed Khursheed Shah appreciated the efforts made by Zamurrad Khan, the Managing Director Bait-ul-Maal for accommodating orphans from different cities of Pakistan and providing with them all the necessary facilities to enjoy life in Pakistan Sweet Homes and giving them an opportunity to participate in this colourful sports event.
“Zamurrad Khan has gathered various flowers from across the country and is providing them all the basic amenities, and thus, serving the suffering humanity. A majority of children residing in Pakistan Sweet Homes are the children of bomb blast victims,” he said.
While addressing the ceremony, Zamurrad Khan said that the children are being provided with free food, shelter, boarding facility and quality education at renowned educational institutes of the nearby areas. Nine Sweet Homes are fully sponsored for the next 14 years with the help of various philanthropists’ donations.
“The Sweet Homes project is a huge success and will be more prosperous in the coming years, as annual donations worth Rs 100 million will keep pouring in for it – regardless of the political party in office,” Zamurrad Khan said. “The annual sports gala has been organised by collecting donations from across the country, and Bait-ul-Maal was not asked to pay a single penny in this regard,” he said.
On the first day of the sports gala, children have participated in different contests such as qirat, naat and declamation. In the coming days, children will participate in songs and tableau contests, sports events and parades. More than 50,000 children from different schools will also participate in the Pakistan Day celebrations at Jinnah Stadium on March 23. The concluding ceremony will be held on March 26.
