Lahore: The annual meeting of Officers and Executive Cooperative Housing Society took place in the provincial capital, a news source reported. General Secretary Chaudhry Abdur Rehman, among others, attended the session.
Rehman informed the participants that a forensic audit of the society has been completed. He added that the developers have also completed work on electrification, roads, and sewerage system.
In December, the Punjab Cooperatives Department had launched an operation against cooperative housing schemes allegedly having financial discrepancies. Provincial Minister for Cooperatives Department Meher Muhammad Aslam issued the directives for the crackdown.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the Anti-Corruption Department are assisting the Punjab Cooperatives Department in its crackdown against the said schemes. Billions of rupees have been recovered in the process. The investigations pertain to illegal construction activities, rent lease and dues pending on part of the schemes.
Some of the societies, which were part of the initial inquiry, include Canal View Housing Society, Professional Cooperative Housing Scheme, Greater Lahore Cooperative Housing Society, and Chinar Bagh Housing Scheme.
