Lahore: The government has raised the annual licensing fees of shops located across the federal capital, a news source reported. Notifications of the increase have been issued to the shopkeepers concerned.
The notices state that the licensing and permission to conduct businesses falls under the Punjab local government, according to the Punjab Local Government Act 2013 – Section 115.
Therefore, under the rules formulated for the purpose in 2017, all shops and business falling in the jurisdiction of Metropolitan Corporation Lahore have to pay a licensing fee of PKR 5,000 – under the schedule issued for licensing.
The notices sent to the shopkeepers provide a deadline of three days for the payment of fees. In case of non-payment, action will be taken against the shopkeepers.
Under the law, they can face a fine, or imprisonment, or both.
