In my blog post ‘What will the Lahore Ring Road’s completion do for the city’s real estate sector?’ I discussed the property price appreciation that the completion of Lahore Ring Road (LRR)’s southern loop would announce for various societies along its route. Now, in this post, I would like to tell you that the authorities concerned are taking measures to start working on the project, with the first step being the assessment of the cost of the land required to complete the LRR.
According to a news source, Lahore Commissioner Mr Abdullah Khan Sunbal has told Lahore District Coordination Officer Captain (r) Muhammad Usman and Additional Revenue Collector Mr Irfan Memon to arrange a meeting of the District Price Assessment Committee next week. Furthermore, the commissioner has also requested the Risk Management Unit of the Planning and Development Department to take part in the assessment of the cost of building LRR’s southern loop.
In 2008, the cost of the 4,000-acre land in question was assessed to be Rs 16 billion, but the delay in acquisition has spiked this price manifold, meaning that the exchequer will now have to bear much heavier costs.
The 30-km southern loop of the LRR is perceived to be beneficial for a number of housing schemes such as Bahria Town, Chinar Bagh, LDA Avenue I, Fazaia Housing Scheme, Lake City, AWT Phase II, Beaconhouse Society, Chinar Courts, Bagh-e-Iram Housing Society and other localities. And now the land price assessment initiative being taken by the authorities concerned means that these societies are finally likely to get the juice they have eagerly waited for for so long.
At this point it would be pointless to discuss any completion dates for the project because no official takes on this matter exist at the moment, but if you would like to add anything to the information I have provided in this post, the comments section below is open for you to do so.
Ths for latest update. I think at least we can say that activity has started but who is going to construct LRR. NLC or someone else?
Assalam o alaikum,
Dear Mr Azfar,
Name of the contractor is unknown for now. Usually, LDA undertakes all the development work in Lahore. Let’s see to whom LDA awards this project.
What do you think the completion of this project will do for the real estate market of Lahore, especially the southern side?
Regards,
zain Nadeem
my feeling is that LDA may ask for commercialization of some part of land alongwith ring road whether owned by LDA or private owners. (may be) But the beginning of LRR activity would definitely trigger activity and prices in the societies especially on raiwind road. Further, Orange Train will also stimulate real estate values in this part of Lahore.
Thanks n regards
Thank you for your feedback Azfar. Your comment gives an idea that infrastructure development create an impetus for real estate growth. Let’s hope, the authorities concerned would complete the project soon.

zain Nadeem
