Advisor to PM on Finance Dr Hafeez Sheikh stated that the government decided to extend the deadline given the public’s overwhelming response to the amnesty scheme. He added that the additional three days would facilitate the masses. He advised the public to take full advantage of the scheme in order to avoid difficulties in the future.
Sheikh also revealed that the government has formed a ‘Benami Commission’, which will be responsible for probing undeclared assets under the amnesty scheme. He added that the commission would begin working after the scheme’s extended deadline has passed.
