Rawalpindi: Three incomplete sections of the Metro Bus Project are expected to take another two months to reach completion, although the bus service has been running since June. Contractors have missed two deadlines in three months and caused the delay, according to news sources.
According to Rawalpindi Commissioner Zahid Saeed, work on the Metro Bus Service Command and Control building on Murree Road and the Peshawar Mor intersection is still incomplete.
The Peshawar Mor intersection, worth PKR 5 billion, was to be completed with the rest of the project. However, due to a design dispute between the contractor (National Logistics Cell) and the designer (Nespak), work was halted and only recommenced in May. The contractor claims that slow progress can be attributed to the Eid holidays. Heavy machinery is currently being employed continuously to finish work as soon as possible, per a news source.
Reportedly, the construction of the command and control building was delayed because firefighting equipment was not imported on time, there was insufficient man power, and the project began after three other projects.
Although delays in the Metro bus Project are causing inconvenience, Mr Saeed is optimistic that work will be completed by the end of October.
