Islamabad: President Dr Arif Alvi on Monday invited foreign investors to explore the opportunities presented by the country’s mining sector, according to news sources.

He stated that Pakistan had recently introduced liberal and investment-friendly policies for the sector, and that international investors could really benefit from this “liberal investment regime”. He went on to say that the government had formulated these policies in order to act as a ‘comprehensive framework’ that is expected to eventually help in establishing an investment-conducive environment in the country.

The president expressed these views while talking with an Australian delegation, which was led by the Founder and Chairman of Fortescue Group Andrew Forrest. On the occasion, he further highlighted that Pakistan was blessed with an abundance of mineral resources and that foreign investors could easily capitalize on the vast opportunities present in the mineral/mining sector.
President Alvi additionally informed the delegates that Pakistan had developed the potential to generated up to 80,000 MW of hydroelectricity. In turn, the delegation’s leader Andrew Forrest expressed his firm’s intention to invest in the local hydel power and mineral sectors.
