Karachi: On Monday, President Arif Alvi was informed by officials of the Sindh Infrastructure Development Company Limited (SIDCL) about Karachi’s Green Line bus project at a meeting held at Governor House Karachi, according to a news source. The briefing covered details of various federal government-funded development projects under construction or to be undertaken in Karachi and other areas of Sindh for the fiscal year 2019-2020.

The Green Line project will be providing transport infrastructure to the densely populated city with 65 diesel-hybrid buses and is going to be completed by March in the next year, as announced by an official of the SIDCL. The first phase of the project is near completion, while Phase-II is under progress. The federal government allocated PKR 2.5 billion for the project for the current fiscal year, and the SIDCL plans to submit the request for the procurement of 65 buses.
Other than that, the development company is planning to complete three other major infrastructure projects during the next three to four months, including constructing a 6.9 km patch of Manghopir Road from Banaras Chowk to Nishter Road and 8.1 km from Jam Chakro to Banaras Chowk. Construction of three flyovers is also on their agenda.

Recently, the SIDCL also contacted the National Disaster Management Authority to secure PKR 700 million to strengthen local agencies with modern disaster recovery tools in areas suffering from drought.
