Karachi: Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecom Syed Aminul Haque on Monday (July 19) requested the government to allot alternate residences before the next rain spell to the owners whose houses were razed during the anti-encroachment drive, according to media reports.

The minister went to the Orangi and Gujjar nullahs to check on the National Disaster Management Authority’s (NDMA) cleanup work . During his visit, the federal minister was briefed by officials from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), and the Katchi Abadi department.
Syed Aminul Haque stated that the federal government is collaborating with the provincial government to tackle the issues that the residents are experiencing. In addition, the minister directed the relevant authorities to complete the storm drain cleaning work before to the next rainstorm to avoid any inconveniences.
Aside from that, the federal minister asked that the process of assigning alternative residences be expedited. To avert a disaster, Mr Haque added that it is critical to clear the drains and provide shelter to displaced people.
