Rawalpindi: In a press conference on held on Thursday (Aug 5), Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Chairman Tariq Mehmood Murtaza said that an alternate route from Rawalpindi to Murree and other, newly establish tourist destinations will be constructed, according to news sources. The planned highway will pass through the four tehsils of Rawalpindi.

During the meeting, the chairman also mentioned that a new approval system for Private Housing Societies and Building Plans has been set up. According to this system, the housing societies can get the approval of layout plan or map in 30 days, approval of change of land use in 45 days, and approval of housing schemes in 75 days. He went on to say that over 1,600 maps of multi-storied and residential buildings were approved in the current year, making it the highest in the history of RDA.
Talking to the media about the accomplishments of RDA, Chariman Murtaza highlighted that RDA has been taking action against unlawful housing schemes and since July 2018, it has issued 91 challan and 307 legal notices to the developers of illegal projects, as well as registered 112 FIRs against such projects. He went on to add that the RDA has sealed 135 offices of housing schemes during this while.
In addition, the chairman also talked about the completed RDA projects. The details are as follows:
- Development of 1.75-km long and two-lane wide Qadeer Khan Road from Missile Chowk to Falcon Complex at a cost of PKR 223.687 million.
- The widening and rehabilitation of 3.45-km long old Airport Road Flying Club to Kral Chowk at a cost of PKR 443 million.
- Conducted feasibility study of Katchri Chowk and Defense Chowk under Annual Development Programme (ADP) by spending PKR 14.550 million.
The chairman also shared details the ongoing projects:
- Expansion and rehabilitation work from Dry Port Road to Airport Road at an estimated cost of PKR 443.158 million.
- Construction of bridges and pedestrians on old Airport Road at the cost of PKR 109.934 million.
Following are the estimated cost of the proposed ADP schemes:
- PKR 30,250 million for land acquisition for Nullah Leh
