Sargodha: The Government of Punjab has instructed the authorities concerned to hold an audit to investigate allegations of corruption in the collection of stamp duty, corporation taxes, and fees of district and cantonment board applicable on transfer of immovable property, reported a news source.
This happened upon the authorities receiving a lead that instead of registering property transfer on the provincial-government’s notified DC rates, property is being split on papers to reduce the tax. Similar reports were received on discrepancies found in the stamp duty, corporation fees, district council’s charges, and cantonment board’s fees.
Responding to this, the provincial government asked for a detailed report from the departments concerned and further ordered an audit to investigate property transfer records from the past and determine those responsible for the discrepancies.
