Karachi: The Defence Housing Authority has informed the Supreme Court-mandated commission on water and sanitation that all sewage would be thoroughly treated before being released into the sea, according to a news report. The DHA has released a report in which it has said that water from its remaining phases will be treated through integration with treatment plant VI by 2020. This report was reviewed by Justice Amir Hani Muslim, who has said that the report would be followed through after slight modifications.
The commission overseeing this has also recommended that the capacity of the proposed sewage treatment plant at Kublai Khan should be raised so more sewage can be treated. All recommendations by the DHA will be dependent on Karachi Water and Sewerage Board for funds before being acceded to. The commission has also ruled that integration of DHA sewerage into any other system wouldn’t be allowed and that it would ensure that no untreated waste is discharged into the sea.
More than 10 industries located in the industrial zones of the Port Qasim Authority (PQA) have also been directed to install treatment plants and septic tanks. Warnings have also been issued to these industrialists if they fail to comply.
